In due time charm of this city has captivated the Romanian queen Maria who has lodged here in her summer residence « the Silent nest ». In Balchik there are no crowds of tourists and nothing even reminding of the noise of the big city. Here people come to have a peaceful holiday with there families.     The famous Botanical garden engaging the area of more than 35 hectares. The unique climate - publicly only from the sea - has allowed to collect here more than 3000 types of plants from all over the world. Among this abundance the rich collection of roses which here blossom in May till August please the eye of visitors. It is necessary to note, that the oil rose is one of symbols of Bulgaria. And here the symbol of the Botanical garden is the cactus avenue where more than 250 types of this amazing plant are collected. On beauty, perhaps, this collection surpasses, as one would expect, only Mexican.     In general the name the Botanical garden, a little bit arbitrarily, is the park adjoining to a palace which with 1932 to 1938 was a residence of the mother of the last Romanian king Karl I. From 1913 to 1940 this district, southern Dobrudja, belonged to adjacent Romania. When queen Maria has chosen this place, here there was nothing, except for watermills and passionate desire of queen to twist for herself a love nest - as the name received the palace.     The port in Balchik is the third on size at the Bulgarian coast of Black sea and through it goes most part of grocery export of Bulgaria that dictates the basic employment of local residents - fishery  From here the ships and yachts sail, and water excursions begin. No mattre thar Balchik does not use furious popularity at tourists, here there is all that will make your rest complete: cinema, theatre, some museums, a lot of shops, grocery and fish markets, monuments, parks.     There are lots of hotels, and the majority of them either private, or boarding houses and rest houses. Practically all quay of the resort is the center of the night life. Here are lots of restaurants, bars, trading pleaces, attractions and entertainments for children, discos and disco-bars.
